MASSACHUSETTS Motorcycle
Permit & LicenseHow to get your Massachusetts Motorcycle Permit and Motorcycle License by taking a class at Pioneer Valley Rider Training
These two steps can be done either BEFORE or AFTER you register for a class with Pioneer Valley Rider Training.
You do NOT need a permit (or an appointment date for your motorcycle permit) to take Basic Rider Course with the license waiver. However, if your intention is to be licensed after taking the Basic Rider Course you must hold an active motorcycle permit either before you take the course or within 90 days after passing the Basic Rider Course.
Step 1.
Set up an appointment at the RMV to get your motorcycle permit at https://atlas-myrmv.massdot.state.ma.us/myrmv/
At the RMV you will need to prove residency and pay the permit fee ($30.00 + the endorsement fee which the clerk at the RMV can help you with). This is a 10-15 minute appointment with no waiting.

Step 2
Go home and take the permit test through your on-line RMV portal. The RMV will provide you with information on how to access the permit test on your computer at home during your appointment with them. (The permit test link will appear on your online account after you visit the RMV.)
How to get your MA Motorcycle Permit & License…..
When you have completed the Basic Rider Course with Pioneer Valley Rider Training the RMV is immediately notified that you have passed the course.
If you have a valid motorcycle permit before you take the class, and have submitted a copy of your motorcycle permit to the Rider Coach (that we will keep) upon check-in and have settled any outstanding debt obligations to the RMV, then you will receive your new MA license in the mail within 15 business days of completing your Rider Course.
If you do not get a M permit before you come to class, the 15 days until the RMV will send you a new motorcycle license will start when you pass the RMV online permit test. Your permit must be obtained within 90 days after successfully passing the Basic Rider Course to be eligible for your license through the BRC.
If you are under the age of 18 you must have a Driver Education Certificate issued by the RMV and have held your Class D or M permit for a minimum of 6 months.
If there are any issues (i.e. you did not provide a copy of your valid driver’s license or motorcycle permit), you will have 90 days to resolve issues (i.e. get a motorcycle permit, pay outstanding obligations, complete the “Lawful Presence” or “Real ID” process. pay the license endorsement fee) and get a copy of your motorcycle permit to us,
